Forgetting things of the past and starting afresh can be one of the most painful and excruciating things to do. For such a long time we have been taught that we mustn’t forget what happened and to remember them always, but surely there comes a time where we have to just turn around and move on, move forward with life.
Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past – Isaiah 43:18
Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead – Philippians 3:13
What Paul said in Philippians is very crucial for us today, it tells us that even though we haven’t made it yet, it’s important that we forget what is behind and look to the future for in Haggai it states that the latter shall be greater than the former and that God will grant us peace. What a beautiful thing to hold on to.
The glory of this present house will be greater than the glory of the former house,’ says the LORD Almighty. ‘And in this place I will grant peace,’ declares the LORD Almighty. – Haggai 2:9
Keeping things stored away or in memory can create hate and bitterness, it can also create unhappiness. Many things will take place good and bad will take place in our lifetime but it is important that we don’t pay too much attention, we can learn from them but we can’t take them with us. Not only will it affect us mentally, it will affect us physically too. Keeping things locked up can cause us to put up a wall where we begin to have trust issues with everyone around us. It can also cause us pain in the short term and in the long term it can have a long lasting damage on what happens next.
Looking back can remind us of how far we come but that’s all it is, look back once in a while so you can see the progress you have made but don’t go back to that place. It might be a place of fear, doubt or even low confidence, it’s important to move forward. A wise man once said this – Stop looking to the past, it is silent but look to the future because it has all the answers.
In life we have to move on every day, it could be moving to a new school, moving to a new house, starting a new job or moving to a new country or it may even be something simple as buying a new phone, at the end of it all we have to move on and embrace the future. Giving up everything and moving on can at a stage take time, wounds need to heal, strength needs to come back and so does courage.
But just how do we do that?
- Appreciate the good times
It’s important that you appreciate the good times that you had and also the lessons that you learned
- Look and See
Looking forwards is one of the biggest and most courageous thing we can do. It signals that we are ready to embrace what’s next
Moving on and starting again can be daunting but it will give you so much peace and belief that you can still make a good thing come from your life. Ponder on what is ahead, look to the future and believe that everything will turn out for the best.
Every season has a reason and there is always a reason for the season, this indicates that everything in your life has an expiry date so it will all come to an end. Be thankful it happened and keep moving forward.
Moving on and looking to the future could be one of the investments you make today. It may be hard, it may be tough but it will benefit you in the long run. God shall give you peace from everything that has troubled in the past
As you read this, I pray you have the courage to move on and look to the future for you latter shall be greater.
